Yes! You can continue your adventures in Tamriel on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 through backward compatibility mode immediately upon each console's respective launch. How do I play ESO on next-generation consoles with backward compatibility?
The way you download and play ESO on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 is the same as you might on previous generation consoles.
If you own a digital copy of ESO:
- Ensure your console has an active internet connection
- Sign in to your existing Xbox Gamertag or PSN ID
- The one you used to play ESO previously
- Visit your game Library, locate The Elder Scrolls Online, and select the option to download
If you own a physical copy of ESO:
- Ensure your console has an active internet connection
- Sign in to your existing Xbox Gamertag or PSN ID
- The one you used to play ESO previously
- Insert your game disk and launch the game
- Follow the instructions on the console to make sure the game is up to date

No. Access to ESO requires that players have a link between their Xbox One account and their ESO account. When they access the game from their Xbox One for the first time, players who already have an ESO account will be able to log in with their ESO User ID and password once they link their ESO and Xbox Live accounts.
New players will need to create a new ESO account - accessible via a link on their consoles - register their e-mail address, choose a password, and complete the account creation steps. They will also have the option to sign up for Bethesda updates, newsletters, and special offers at this time.
